PLAYABLE CHARACTERS

PLAYABLE CHARACTERS

The game is panfandom. Canon characters, OCs, and AUs are allowed. AUs and OCs need to have more thorough apps. AUs in particular must have realistic differences due to the AU events, but also must still retain some of the spirit of the original character rather than being AUed so drastically they seem like an OC. Players can create an AU tweak of other types of characters (such as CRAUs) as well, so players can bring in whatever incarnation of the character they want.

Characters with very little facetime in canon (including silent protagonists in video games) are allowed. However, they will have a more stringent app as they're essentially an OC. We expect the player to fill in the blanks with headcanon that would be reasonable for the canon and character.

Canon OCs (OCs from pre-existing canon universes) are allowed. Canon OCs cannot have a close relationship to the canon characters. (For example, a hunter OC from Supernatural could not have a history of being friends with Sam and Dean Winchester.)

CRAUs (characters with growth from past RPs) are allowed. CRAUs must have a short bullet points summary of their activity in the other game they're from. CRAUs can include history from psls and non-open games.

OCs and NPCs from tabletop systems and MMO fandoms are allowed.

No real people are allowed, unless they're fictionalized historical characters. Fictionalized historical characters must be from before the 1800s, and will be assessed for appropriateness for the game. If you want to app a fictionalized historical character from 1800 to the present, that is even more case by case. Before apping, contact the mods to discuss it.

The baseline character age limit is 14 (or an equivalent mentality if a character has weird aging), but characters between 11 and 13 can potentially be apped on a case by case basis. Magic will force young characters on missions, bypassing the choice of adults around them, but they need to be able to function and be competent on them. Child or teen characters must be capable enough to be able to defend themselves or contribute to survival. An example character under 14 that would work in the game: Aang from Avatar: The Last Airbender. Aang is 12 during the series, but a hugely powerful hero who constantly fights life or death battles for the fate of his world. Players also have the option to do older AUs of young characters to get them over the age limit, pulling them from further ahead in their personal timeline.

"Crack" characters from universes with strange world physics will be case by case. This will be based on how well they'd work with the limitations of the world and we expect these characters to meet "real" world limitations. Ask the mods before apping if you think this applies to you.

Non-humanoid and non-organic characters are allowed. In most cases, you may keep them in their normal bodies. Robots, androids, tentacle aliens, energy beings, etc. are all allowed. The only exception would be beings that could somehow break the setting (ie sprawling bubbling horrors like Lovecraftian gods). We may pose some limitations on the powers their natural state provides them, or count those powers as one of the powers/spells the character is allowed. Our only requirement regarding species/powers/form is that the character is somehow mortal - that they can be physically destroyed or killed.

Characters with special dietary needs like vampires or zombies are allowed. The mods can help you come up with an in-universe way to get their food resources (such as allowing them to feed on animals or working out an arrangement with other players to have characters feed the vamp with blood donations) or magical-created handwaves.

Villains are allowed. Even some openly villainous characters can work in game as part of the group, since they're all bound together magically. However, villains must be able to cooperate with others, or be willing to hide their villainy if they plan to work against the group. There is nothing protecting a villain from the rest of the squad killing them if they cause the group harm.

Characters must have some capacity to adjust to the setting and the stress of surviving a fantasy adventure. Characters don't necessarily have to be competent but they need to at least be able to survive, even if it's just by being fast on their feet ala hobbits.

Characters will be forced into the quest by the quest bond so they don't necessarily need to be willing to "play ball." However, they may need to learn to cooperate to a degree. If they'd work at cross purposes with the other characters, we may ask further questions regarding their integration into the setting and your long term plans.
