ACTIVITY CHECK POLICY

ACTIVITY CHECK POLICY
The Activity Check period in the game is two months long. At the end of the first month of each AC period there will be a check-in that requires no activity proofs. At the end of the second month of each AC period, players will need to post activity proofs.
This game's AC is unique in that it is done by player, rather than by character. AC can be met by one character, or by combining the activity of multiple characters. This is to acknowledge how sometimes players rotate attention on some characters, sometimes focusing heavily on one during something time-intensive like a month-long plot.
Basic AC is made by providing (2) proofs of activity every two months. Proof types are explained in greater detail under the Proof Types header below. If you must combine proofs to meet the required (2), you can use the same type of proof twice (such as (2) network posts).
Counts as (2) proofs and meets Full AC by itself:
- (20) comments made by either one character or any combination of your characters. These can be spread across multiple characters and/or multiple threads, but comments in a thread cannot be counted unless you made at least 5 posts by one of your characters to the thread. Meeting this 20-comment proof automatically satisfies AC.
- Multi-character/multi-thread Example: Stanley McToot plays Barry Bluejeans, Spider-Ham, and Scooby Doo. Over the 2-month activity period, he uses Barry to make (5) posts to one thread, Spider-Ham to make (5) posts to another thread, and Scooby to make (10) posts to a third thread. Mr. McToot has made (20) total posts with his characters in two months, so AC is fully met.
Counts as only (1) proof of activity - must be combined with (1) other proof, for a total of (2) proofs:
- (10) comments made by one character or any combination of your characters. These can be spread across multiple characters and multiple threads, but comments in a thread cannot be counted unless you made at least 5 posts by one of your characters to the thread.
- (1) Network or log post
- (1) "Starter"/top-level in a plot or event.
Comment-based AC (10 or 20 Comment Proofs)
AC-eligible comment threads are any posted in

Comment counts refer to only the number of comments you personally make in a thread. You must make at least 5 comments to a thread to start counting your comments in it (but once you have, every one of your comments counts towards AC). As long as threads are eligible, you can combine comments made by multiple characters you play across multiple threads.
For network posts, we will accept threads that aren't one continuous conversation if they meet the comment count and the player has made significant contributions. Due to the broken up nature of commenting on networks in this game's network style, we know that it's hard sometimes to have a single continuous thread of five posts in a row with a single character. If we feel a character hasn't made enough contributions for a network thread to count, we'll give the player a chance to provide an alternate proof.

The post itself counts separately from the threads inside it. Making a Network post and then making 10 comments to a thread inside it, for example, would count as two AC proofs, not one, meeting Basic AC.
Players must meet basic AC to stay in the game. This also earns (1) ac reward.
The AC in place is the minimum activity required to stay in the game. Active players in the game are rewarded for extra activity. After a player has made their basic AC, they can earn the Activity Bonus by providing one additional proof of activity. (Any type!)
Benefits of making the Bonus include:
Plot Priority
The mods will prioritize new players and active players in plots with limited roles.
That said, players that meet the minimum can still have fun in the game. There will be non-RNGed plot roles in plots, plenty of plots that don't have RNGed roles, as well as player-run plots which can go at any pace players want.
Magic Upgrades and Special Items
Alongside plot priority, making the AC bonus also earns a character a second power upgrade or special item. Characters that have magic can gain (1) new basic spell, or increase one spell or magic ability by (1) level. Characters with canon superpowers, a magic weapon, or who choose "Roughing It" can only gain (1) magical item.
The mods will provide a list of items and use the honor system when it comes to people RNGing items.
This means that all players can win a total of (2) AC rewards for each character they have, (1) for making Basic AC, (1) for making the Activity Bonus.
When listing what rewards you want during AC, you must list rewards by character if you want a different reward for each.
Please lists RNGed item rewards, or power gains, in your AC comment before the mods judge anything, so they don't have to go back. You can go to the AC rewards page to pick items or look at power gain examples.
If you have some kind of emergency, have difficult circumstances during an AC period (such as health issues, difficulties with school, disruptions due to current RL events, or other life issues), or have something preplanned that might take you away from home, you can be exempt from 1-2 ACs per rolling year. Once these AC skips have been used up, players must start taking AC warnings if they fail AC in the future. Due to the current state of the pandemic, we will make the occasional exception to allow another AC skip, but please contact us if you have extenuating circumstances.
If you believe you're eligible for an AC Skip, please note it during the Activity Check that it applies, or contact the mods privately either before or during the Activity Check, either through PM, the MOD CONTACT, or the HIATUS/DROPS post.
If you fail to make Basic AC, you have the option of taking a Warning. This would mean that the next AC period, you must provide an additional proof for the Basic Activity requirement for a total of (3) proofs.
A player must clear the AC warning before they can be issued another one - failing two checks in a row will require a drop. AC warnings are meant to be used sparingly throughout the year and if the mods see the warning system being abused, they may decline to issue additional warnings to the player.
Who is considered a new player?
Anyone that approaches a Full Activity Check without having experienced an AC before (including check-ins) is considered new.
Current players are players that have experienced at least one AC, whether that is a Full AC or a Check-in.
Do new players have to make AC for Full AC?
For any new players, for their first Full AC, if they app in less than two weeks before the Full AC, they must simply post a check in.
If they app in more than two weeks before Full AC they must only post a check-in and a link to at least one activity proof of any length (such as their character's intro post/thread). However, other than proof they have introed into the game somehow, they do not have to meet the Full AC requirements for their first Full AC.
What if I'm a new player? Can I still get the Activity Bonus?
New players automatically get treated as if they have the AC Bonus, even if they only have to do a check in. It's only after their first Full AC (ie the one that require proofs) that they must start earning the Bonuses with actual activity. The first one is a freebie! Which means the characters of new players get (1) reward for basic and (1) for the Bonus.
Can I use an older thread for activity if it was started in a past AC period, but continued going so that newer comments were posted during the current AC period?
Yes! The mods recognize that sometimes threads can be backtagged for a long time. So if you used an older thread for a past AC, but the thread continued and has more recent comments that were posted during the current AC period, you may count the more recent comments towards the current AC. Any activity posted between the activity period dates can count as proofs, even if the thread initially started during an older AC period. The new activity must still fit the proof requirements.
Do Test Drive Meme threads count towards AC?
Yes, you can use TDM threads for comment-based and starter/top-level based AC proofs.
Can I still get the Activity Bonus if I have a Warning?
Yes. If you are able to make the Basic AC, and provide the additional proof to satisfy the Warning, you can still potentially go on to make the Activity Bonus. This would require a total of (4) proofs for the period.
